The Lake Quilpie June 29 – July 1

July 5, 2021 - Reading time: ~1 minute

Wonderfully relaxed drive to Quilpie via Eromanga and then onto Quilpie where we selected a spot on the West side of the Lake (billabong on the Paroo River) with wonderful views and bird life. Things looked great!

Unfortunately, it started drizzling about 7 am – forgot to mention the black soil plains surrounding the lake – very quick pack up and we hightailed out of there to the ridge above the Eastern side of the Lake. With the rain we decided to head out to Toompine Hotel 75kms away for a cuppa! Seriously, nothing else in the town except the pub, which is being rebuilt but they had a donga from which they sold tea/coffee and cake. Talk about spirit!

The next two nights saw in excess of 200 vans staying as they made their way to the Big Red Bash – there was a great sharing of stories around the communal campfire, and a great opened for a few hours. Image description Image description
