Stay 1 Litchfield Tourist park 3 nights
Things don’t always go to plan! We had 3 nights booked at the Florence Falls 2WD Campground ( used the phone system) and were allocated site 3 and assured it was appropriate!
Unfortunately, it was not! Very narrow entrance with a tree making it more difficult, steep slope (1 metre at least from the front to back) and then a greater drop off down hill! After much discussion with NT Parks re alternative sites we chose to move on. Thereby losing our payment, which we have applied to be returned!
Ended up at Litchfield Tourist Park for $27 (seniors) a night in the unpowered section. Excellent Park and very good value - you get to choose your site and we had good shade, excellent solar, a very shady pool ( read cold water), excellent bar. All up a positive place!
We used the tourist park as a base to visit Buley's Rockholes, Florence Falls and the lost city.
Stay 2 Wangi Falls campground site 30
We checked out our site at Wangi before departing Litchfield Tourist Park! Very good location, a short walk to the main pool ( closed due to current strength of the current and crocodiles) and a short drive to Sandy Falls, Greenant creek falls and the cascades all of which seemed to be far less busy than Buley’s Rockholes and Florence Falls.
Sandy Falls is gorgeous! 11 kms on a pretty good 4 wheel drive track – 60cm deep water crossing approximately 50 metres long right at the start, then a number of small jump ups and generally good fun.
Walk 1.7 kms along a very interesting track and you arrive at a majestic waterfall and pool, which while cool is certainly refreshing.
Greenant creek is a very small waterfall but to access it you need to walk through the monsoon forest and climb up and into the Savannah Woodlands or table top country. A delightful but small pool awaits you at the top
