The drive from Musgrave to the Jardine river was full of expectation, corrugations, dust and hope!

Pajinka – The Tip – made it after seven weeks of on again off again! Punsand Bay is a beautiful place, shady, golden beach, structured, not over the top – except for the prices to camp there ! We had a site in the middle row, opposite a walkway for $60a night! Thankfully it was not fully packed out in the three days we were there but it would be extremely challenging in a non covid season..

Pajinka is located on a rocky headland, about a 15 minute walk from the car park, which is located in a beautiful bay where the sand at low tide seems to go forever with a beautiful blue/green sea. The walk is relatively easy and you pass a number of memorials indicating people have had their ashes cast to the wind here – hopefully not with an on shore breeze!

Strolling along the beach at Punsand was a highlight, watching crabs scattering before your feet, diving into the gentle rolling waves, or exploring the creek mouths for signs of crocodiles was both pleasant and entertaining. On these walks we saw a number of beach shacks belonging to the locals – gee they were not up to cyclone code and were perilously close to the beach, but you could imagine having some wonderful times there.

Unfortunately, the beach lacked any real structure so the fishing did not produce any great results. Also visited Somerset Point, where the graves of the original settlers are – gives you a clear indication how hard life must have been – windswept, Sandy soil, constantly fighting the elements!
