Wonderfully entertaining drive from Winton to Julia Creek with hardly seeing a soul! North of Winton the road took us pass a number of Mesa’s and it was amazing to see the erosion on the edges, the flat tops, including a classic plug!
Kynuna population 20 according to the sign, but at the moment 8, is the home to the famous ‘Blue Heeler’ pub, which appears to be struggling economically at this point due to the lack of passing trade. However, the milkshake and chips were outstanding!
Julia Creek has a caravan park owned by the council and also offers a 96 hour stopover stay at a free camp approximately 1 km from town (you need to be fully self contained). The council has made a conscious effort to build a tourist friendly environment and from our perspective succeeded. The shops are great – the old pub near the railway line superb and from reports the butcher is great.
