Monday September 24 – 29 Nick’s visit at Conto’s campground Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park

October 4, 2018 - Reading time: 2 minutes

After dropping Myrtle (the trailer) at Cousin Mick and Pat's, we headed early to Perth as it was a long weekend and the roads were busy! Spent a beaut 2 hours at the King's Park, the flowers and wildflowers were outstanding, and the view over Perth equally as splendid. Finding our way to the Airport was 'fun', Nick arrived on time and it was great to see him after so long! The 2 hour trip back to Gelorup went quickly with a mixture of catch up chatter and the Brownlow Medal!!

We began our adventures of Margaret River and the Cape to Cape the next morning. Our camp for the week was at Conto's in the Cape Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park, a lovely campground, and not too busy. Over the week we travelled to the far South corner - Cape Leeuwin and Augusta,(where the Indian Ocean meets the Great Southern) to the north, Cape Naturaliste and its splendid lighthouse and views, with whales everywhere! In between the surf beaches were plentiful and beautiful. Probably the pick was Prevally ( home of the Margaret River Surf Classic) - we saw a Jet Ski tow a surfer out to the biggest break and surf it in, made all the more spectacular by the half dozen dolphins jumping ahead of him on the same wave! Another highlight was our visit to Mammoth Cave, which contains fossils from the Tasmanian Devil and Koala's, which have not existed in WA for thousands of years! Image description Image description

On the inland we visited the surrounding towns, a few wineries, breweries, chocolate factories etc- they were all great. Returning back to camp each night we cooked tea and had a big warm fire! (And a glass of wine!) Image description
