July 14 - 21 Ningaloo Station site 66

July 23, 2018 - Reading time: 2 minutes

The Ningaloo Station turn of is just under 100 kms from Exmouth and we made good time – even taking into account the stop at the bakery for hot drinks and cake! From the turn-off it is approximately 45 kms to the homestead and our campsite, which took one and a half hours on a very heavily corrugated road, with increasing sand over the last 15 kms ( tyres pressures were down to 18 psi at the front and 20 at the rear). Our camp site is stunning in its price ($70 for the week), in its isolation (nearest camp is 200 metres away) and its beauty as seen below. Image description

For the first two days the wind was out of the south and was very strong limiting our ability to go snorkelling as it made the water quite milky. Well the wind dropped midday Tuesday, so we put the wetsuits on and had our first snorkel. Saw a number of beautiful fish including some Giant Trevally, and little crops of coral, which has excited us for our future explorations.

Over the next four days days we had a great time cruising the reef, seeing turtles, beautiful coral, numerous fish species, and when on land trying to catch a fish, which Maureen managed to do – a beautiful Trevally. Image description
