May 9 – 10 Mt Barnett Roadhouse/ Manning gorge

May 22, 2018 - Reading time: 2 minutes

Departed Mt Elizabeth and on the way out visited Warla Gorge which was approximately 10kms in from the road. It is a very special place! If you had the time you could swim and sun here for hours. We then returned to the main road and drove 40 kms on very good dirt to Mt Barnett Roadhouse where we booked in for two nights.

The campground is ok but I would not like to be here in the peak season, as three showers would be totally inadequate for the large numbers. This was also our first (maybe last as well) chance to restock the pantry for the next twenty days till we arrive in Derby. Got some tomatoes, UHF milk, bacon, carrots, broccoli, cabbage and bread. It is interesting that we have not yet had to resort to our frozen veggies.

After setting up camp, we had a nice swim in the Barnett river which we will cross tomorrow for the walk into the Manning gorge.

Well Manning Gorge lived up to its reputation- in a word spectacular and since we are early in the season the waterfall was flowing strongly. A good 6 km return trip so plenty of water was consumed in both directions and a good swim. Had a wonderful fire. – our second for the trip, which is interesting as we both love camp fires but they have been difficult to organise with total fire bans in Victoria and South Australia.
