February 23 – Surfleet Cove Lincoln National Park

February 25, 2018 - Reading time: 2 minutes

Surfleet Cove has been a surprise! As the easiest accessible Camp in the Park we anticipated that we would have a plenty of company but arrived to find that we had the place to ourselves. Our site is about 400 metres from the beach but has great Bay views.

There are a number of walking tracks that follow the cliffs. The track from here to Spaulding Cove was well marked, and gave some wonderful views of the Cove from about 30 metres. This allowed us to spot rays gliding through the clear waters like giant vacuum cleaners, lovely sand banks and two beautiful black swans swimming.

I did mention the rays above, so went fishing today for thirty minutes and Maurs caught a couple of nice whiting, I however managed to hook said ray and after 10 minutes of trying to move the thing more than a few metres gave up and cut the line. It fought by basically by burying itself into the sand, whereas my QLD experience has been one of long runs and good fun.

Walked to Stamford Hill which was appropriately a 8 km hike, again along clearly defined paths. The summit presented magnificent views across Boston Bay towards Port Lincoln. Overall Surfleet has been a great place to introduce ourselves to Port Lincoln National Park, from the walks, to emus wandering by, amazing blue waters and the ever changing weather.
