We arrived in the Tea Gardens – Hawks Nest region on Saturday January 20, with the National Park campgrounds full! We had known this was a risk but I had always wanted to camp along Mungo Brush rd since I first saw them as a teenager, however it was not to be.
Luckily we were able to camp at the Myall River camp (which advertises itself as - primitive camping) in a fairly crowded campground. Fortunately, most of the camp left on the Sunday afternoon and we had a very large space to ourselves. The walking was limited but we got in a 8km walk around Winda Woppa onSunday , and the climb up Yacaaba Headland on Monday where we had tremendous views of Port Stephens, Broughton Island, and out to the Barrington Top Ranges. Quite spectular.
The Fishing was Ok without being spectular, resulting in a number of Bream which were either just legal, or undersize and one 48cm flathead which became dinner!
