A short but entertaining drive as moved from the dried eroded plains around the Pinnacles, ontoMitchell grass plains and finally our first glimpse of the escarpment country.
The countryside around Cloncurry returned to a green tinge with the small red escarpments in the background, it was for me a reminder of the McDonnell Ranges around Alice. The Post Office was a great examle f 1930's QLD architecture.
Located half way between Mt Isa and Cloncurry, Mary Kathleen was one of the two Uranium mines I studied in the 1960’s in primary school. We had driven past but never ventured in till last night. Fascinating place, the streets and concrete platforms for the houses are still there. After looking at the map we found the old school site, swimming pool, tennis courts and ovals.
Suppose it was only fair that after walking over the place the local cows decided to pay us a visit!
