Alroy Station July 2 - 4

July 11, 2021 - Reading time: ~1 minute

Unique campground alongside Yowah Creek by yourself OR an open space area near the camp kitchen with fiveor six other camps? Easy decision!

Alroy is about 35 kms from Yowah famous for its Opals and in particular it’s Yowah nut. Had a great day visit on market day, with the dominant product for sale – opals – it was a different experience and the local characters very informative and entertaining.

Walking through the campsites I noticed a rock that had been cut opened and was displaying significant colour of opal. Image description

Our host Mac described the area as Mulga ( Acacia) country which provided the cattle & sheep with feed. He also casually informed us how the area went for seven years without rain, which explained the arid conditions, but had a plentiful supply of artesian water which if used correctly made the stations profitable.

This Artesian water supply (very hot) also was used to fill the baths which we used to relax each day. Image description
