July 9/10 Einasleigh Lodge Caravan Park

July 15, 2020 - Reading time: 2 minutes

Einasleigh – old pub, dry brown, run down – powerful, stunning gorge, rock formations carved by nature.

Leaving Croydon we turned right at Georgetown, along 50 kms of rather corrugated dirt road to Forsayth. A quaint little town that is in many ways the gateway to Cobbold Gorge, which was unfortunately packed due to the school holidays and we were unable to visit. A further 40 kms up the road was Einasleigh which we had picked for its access to Copperfield Gorge which we had been told was worth a visit.

Luckily for us, it certainly was! A sandy river crossing, hid a superb little gorge with incredibly straight cliffs dropping 20 metres to the water. A couple of hundred metres further on you were able to climb down to the river and explore upstream. It was a wonderful walk.

Additionally, the campground was a gem for value. $25 a night powered with free laundry, tea coffee and home made cookies – bargain! To top it off the only structure in the town was a beautiful example of Queensland early twentieth century architecture – at that stage the town must have been booming because it would have been a very expensive construction.
