Goombaragin is located off the Cape Leveque Rd approximately 2 hour drive from Broome and has only two campsites, located on cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean. On arrival we met the owner Kath who informed us that she was in poor health, and the weather pump had failed so she had closed her business on a temporary basis. Luckily for us, she had organised alternative accommodation at Pender Bay escape.
The Pender Bay camp site was located on the top of a beautiful red cliff top with a superb outlook over the Indian Ocean. We had four wonderful nights there, swapping camping experiences with Anne, Mark and Di, who shared their stories of their work in the Phillipines and property investment.
Unfortunately, the fishing was again a disappointment with the only fish caught was a 20 cm flathead! However, we filed in our days having wonderful coffee and cake at the Whale song café and swimming in the crystal clear waters of Middle Lagoon. Each night Mark created a made a great camp fire, which we used to bake potato and pumpkin. Andrew the owner joined us and as we swapped constellations, he introduced us to the Indigenous ‘Emu’ which is the dark space between the constellations.
