Had five wonderful nights here in the camping section – site 401. Visited ‘One arm point’ or in indigenous ‘Ardyaloon’ which is approximately 8 kms from here to do some restocking from the store and visit the trochus farm, which was wonderful. Saw a beautiful Barramundi Cod and Maureen purchased a gorgeous little necklace that was quite cheap but intricate at the same time.
We completed three tours, the sunset tour out to Shell Island, the Pearl farm tour and the Riji tour. All were very good, with the sunset tour including a 15 minute cruise into the bay to view the sun setting over the headland, on the way we passed the start of the farm with 16k nautical miles of shell swaying in the current.
The Pearl farm tour was very insightful giving both an overview of the development of Pearl farming in the late twentieth century and the advantages of farming here at Cygnet Bay. We got the opportunity to open a shell, taste the meat and after lessons grade the Pearl that we harvested. Maureen and I have decided to purchase both the Pearl and shell that was harvested on our trip ( $58) and will make it into a display to commemorate our visit. The Riji tour taught us about the local indigenous story, and the use of the Pearl Shell and the Artwork local man Bruce Wiggins does on it.
Overall Cygnet Bay was a wonderful place to sit read, relax, go for a wander have a fish and visit the bar in happy hour! We all agreed that we would visit again.
