May 16 - 17 Silent Grove campground - Bell Gorge

May 22, 2018 - Reading time: ~1 minute

On the drive out on Mornington we stopped into Imintji store and restocked our groceries and a few veggies- they had fresh lettuce! When we arrived the campgrounds were almost empty (1 camp) but by sunset the numbers had swollen to ten camps. This seems to be the style of the Gibb River Rd, people drive from one spot to the next, stay a night, visit the feature and then move on the next day. Many tour groups and tourists people however really race along and we heard one lady complaining that she had done a Frankie Valli ‘4 gorges in one day!’

Bell gorge is a superb water fall which drops almost 25 metres over 6 levels into a beautiful pool with reasonably step rocky edges. It is an easy 2 km walk in each direction along a creek bed for most of that distance with two water crossings and finishing with a steep down hill climb. The water was cold !Image description Silent Grove Campground Image description Creek Crossing Image description Relaxing
