July 6 12 Karratha and Giralia Station

July 23, 2018 - Reading time: 2 minutes

Our main purpose in visiting Karratha was to drop Martin at the airport for his trip to Perth. This we managed to do safely, but not before he shouted us a wonder meal at the Onyx tavern and bar. Unfortunately on Saturday morning we noticed that the under body protection plate and bull bar were loose. Further inspection of the issue meant that the car needed a quick once over and so our stay in Karratha was extended till Monday.

Fortunately, we managed to get away at a reasonable time and made our way to Giralia station, with the main purpose being to enjoy the quiet of the Bush, a few walks and perhaps catch a fish or two down at the creek and beach. Giralia was a lovely little spot where we enjoyed the communal fire every night, wonderful walks each day and two fishing sessions which while enjoyable did not provide the big fish we had hoped for! We took the opportunity to drive down to Coral Bay a small town on the WA coast which is a popular destination for holiday makers. While appreciating its beauty we wandered into a dive tour shop to look at our options for a dive with the whale sharks.- no booking made but we did walk out with two wet suits for the total cost of fifty dollars! Bargain!

I also did used the time to experiment with some bananas that had gone off to cook a cake using the Weber – got a great result as you can see from the photo below. Image description

It was interesting in that most of the people staying there were actually filling in time for the Western Australian school holidays to finish before heading to either, Coral Bay, Exmouth or Cape Range National Park, where the main attraction is the Ningaloo Reef which gets as close as fifty metres to the coast!
