Today was a day of adventure. We left Hale and drove to Gem Tree where we refuelled, purchased lunch with a view to follow the Binns Track and camp at Tower Rock. Great plans sometimes need adjustment! The Binns track was corrugated for some sections but we were able to maintain 60kph, however on the side track to Tower Rock we arrived at a significant creek crossing – approximately 60 metres in width with very deep sand. After walking about ten metres we both agreed that is was too much to attempt by ourselves and so decided to bypass Tower Rock for Bundey river. Great plan but the only problem was Bundey River was significantly longer around 400 metres on the GPS and we had 7 channels to cross. Once again we walked the river bed and at the first five channels it was no where near as deep as at Tower Rock, unfortunately the same could not be said for the last two. Once again we decided it was beyond us and drove 180 kms back to Gem Tree where we arrived at 6.45pm.
It was a long and frustrating day but as discussed over a quiet beer and some packet fried rice we determined that our decisions were correct.
