May 28 – 29 Horizontal Falls floating hotel

June 4, 2018 - Reading time: 2 minutes

We had our first night out of the camper in over 6 weeks, staying at the Horizontal Falls floating hotel for a night. When looking at visiting Horizontal Falls we wanted to be able to boat through both gaps in the McLarty Ranges – in other words the full experience. It became apparent that the only way to do this was the overnight tour, making sure that the tides times would allow it! While fairly expensive it was worth it.

It was a very busy and active, time. We departed Derby and, arrived at Horizontal Falls just after 3 pm it was drop the bags into the room, onto the boat for a cruise up Cyclone creek and then the run through the wider gap (20 metres)Falls It was spectacular, but the narrow gap (7 metres) falls were running at 4 metres and were considered too dangerous even with 900 hp on the back!

Had a lovely night sitting on the deck, eating freshly caught Barra and drinking some very nice wine.

Next morning Maureen booked in for a helicopter flight over the falls and had a ball! Then it was back into the boat and another run through both falls as the tide was much more friendly. It was both great fun and thrilling.
