Monday October 1- 3 Bruce and Wave Rock

October 10, 2018 - Reading time: ~1 minute

We left Yanchep and rather than taking the main Highway headed North East through Gingin, Bindoon ( a really nice town) Northam and onto York, which was a lovely town with some beautiful old buildings. We continued on to a free camp at Bruce Rock and the Heavens opened early in the morning and we woke to a mud pit. Fortunately, the rain had ceased and the tent dried quickly and we managed to get back onto the road and onto to Wave Rock.

Wave Rock was both delightful and fascinating. The residents of Hyden ( the town located nearby) in the early 1930’s had built a catchment wall around the top of the rock funnelling water into a dam which became and remained the town water supply up to early this century.

The Wave Rock section is the result of underground erosion which occurred millions of years ago! Quite amazing really ! Other surrounding features were The Humps (another incredible formation and walk) and Mulka’s caves with its ancient aboriginal hand paintings. Image description Image description
