February 18 Burra

February 22, 2018 - Reading time: ~1 minute

We set up camp at the Showgrounds for $15 which included toilets, shower and power. It appeared to be a good deal but in the end Maureen and I went without the power and set up overlooking the main oval, where the local equestrian club was competing. The grounds themselves were dry , dusty and then windy! The background was spectacular as a storm began to appear over the hills.

A decision was taken to tour the town and explore the wonderful old buildings made from the local slate and sandstone (seen in movies such as Breaker Morant and Wolfe Creek) and the old mining ventures (copper &tin) from the mid to late 19th century. Had a wonderful time walking and exploring all the while with an eye to the approaching storm.

Thankfully, we timed our return to perfection, getting home as the wind increased in intensity, rushing to adjust poles and ropes – nothing too serious! Image description Image description
